Job seekers beware!

Mafube Business Forum (MBF) are aware of numerous job seekers who would like to seize every opportunity out of desperation or otherwise, but we would like to warn them to act with great caution when offers are made to them. As the saying goes:"If something sounds too good to be true, it probably is!"

Here are a few general suggestions that job seekers should keep in mind: • Do research on the company offering the job; it will also come in handy during an interview. • Large / well-known companies never use email addresses that Gmail; Yahoo or Hotmail, but will include their own company name (co.za or .com). In rural areas, Gmail; Yahoo and Hotmail are more common. Please check the legality of the business before sharing your personal information with them. • Do not fall for it if a potential employer or agency asks for a “registration fee”. • If specifically asked for a photo, provide only a head and shoulders photo attached in the CV and not additional. Especially not when no information regarding the type work is given. • Firms do not use WhatsApp numbers in their communication, but do use e-mail addresses as well as landline / office phone numbers. • Fax numbers are also a thing of the past. Few or NO firms have the time to use fax facilities anymore. MBF are aware that some government agencies still indicate fax numbers in their correspondence but it is doubtful whether they are even used. E-mail is so much more efficient, cost effective and accessible online. • Interviews conducted at hotels should cause alarm bells to ring. Do not attend an interview at an hotel unless the position is specifically offered at that hotel. Ladies and men alike - be careful when going for an interview. Human trafficking is a reality and people do go missing. Always be careful and vigilant.

MBF will be happy to assist prospective job seekers and offer advice where there may be doubt.
