Mafube Mayor’s “Copy & Paste” Report

On 6 February 2026, Mafube Local Municipality (MLM), published a notification in the Frankfort Herald that the municipality’s Annual Report is available for public scrutiny and comment. This came as somewhat of a surprise to Mafube Business Forum (MBF), having repeatedly reminded the municipal management of its obligation in terms of local government legislation, to issue a comprehensive report to the community within 7 months of the financial yearend, detailing municipal activities and the financial situation. Local Government legislation recognise the right the community (residents, business owners and ratepayers), as an important component, to be informed and to participate in the affairs of their municipality.   

MBF scrutinised the 2024/5 Annual Report and commented thereon within the limited time available, expressing concerns as to the contradictions between the report and the findings of the Auditor-General. In the view of MBF, insufficient care was taken in the preparation of the Annual Report resulting in several inaccuracies and omissions. The Mayor’s Foreword was found to be the usual laughable “cut & paste” rhetoric; with insincere, calculated and dishonest assertions made, giving a false appearance of frankness while hiding the truth.

The list of purported “Key infrastructure milestones achieved” is largely contradicted by the project assessment report and AG’s findings which indicate that few of these projects were actually completed. It appears that Mayor is out of touch with Mafube reality and the poor performance of the (mostly politically) appointed service providers. As expressed in our conclusion, MBF reserve the right to raise any issue with the management of MLM at any future time as and when we deem it appropriate.
