[Eng] The Mafube Business Forum (MBF) is disappointed by the ongoing poor financial management at the Mafube Local Municipality, which has led to the municipality having to enter into special conditions with the National Treasury before their equitable share could be paid out again.

According to information given to staff in an internal letter, the municipality had to pay R6 million in arrears in pension fund contributions to meet the Treasury’s conditions. The municipality claims in the communication that this payment has since been made.

In the same communication, staff were promised that salaries would be paid out again once the funds were received from the Treasury. However, according to them, there is currently no clarity or fixed timeline on when this money will be available.

MBF would like to emphasise that financial transparency, accountability and competent management are non-negotiable, and calls on the new acting municipal manager, Ms Selapyane, to take action and regain the trust of the community and business sector.

“We are willing to work with the new management, but this must be accompanied by regular reporting, open communication and visible efforts to restore financial discipline,” says Jannie Schabort, chairman of MBF.
