Our view on the local government elections

Mafube Business Forum (MBF) have received numerous questions from individuals relating to our position or stance with regard to the forthcoming municipal elections. Prospective candidates claiming to be independent have even approached the forum for support. It has therefore become necessary to reiterate the following:

• We are apolitical as our founding documents substantiate. • It is not our intention to become involved in politics and support individuals to become members of the municipal council. • Our primary goal is to ensure that all the residents and businesses in the various communities receive the best possible service from the municipality within the constraints of available funds. • Our role is one of a watch dog ensuring adherence to proper corporate governance principles, prioritising needs and well-planned budgets and responsible spending of government and private funds. • We do get involved by offering assistance, training and making the best people available to serve on audit or oversight committees. • If the facts and situation warrants it, we would in dire circumstances approach the courts as a last resort to protect our towns, and individuals residing and/or conducting business in our towns, in its broadest sense.

It is trusted that candidates with a passion for the town and with the same goals as the MBF would be successful during the elections. Whatever happens we will stick to our goals and principles. The facts will determine our response.

Residents, business owners and ratepayers are requested to report to MBF, any incidences of pollution, sewer leakages and illegal dumping. Visit our offices at 18A Church Street during our business hours, on Mondays to Thursdays from 08h30 to 16h00 and Fridays from 08h30 to 12h30, or contact Marina on WhatsApp at 079 145 4295. Or send an email to info@mafubebf.org
